UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Flex Full-Time Registered Nurse to support our Cardiac MRI Department.

Schedule: This position is scheduled for three 10-hour daylight shifts per week and may occasionally extend into evening hours. No weekends or holidays required.

About the Position: The Cardiac MRI nurse is crucial to maintaining safe patient care in a strong magnetic field. The nurse calls patients in advance to make sure that they can safely undergo an MRI exam. The nurse will also work with other hospitals to arrange transport and care for patients being transferred to our facility for the exam and then returning to their own hospital. The nurse will provide medications as needed for stress testing and for claustrophobia. This position works in close contact with the Cardiac MRI physicians, techs, and Administrative Assistant to insure safe and efficient care for our patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and interdisciplinary teams; demonstrates accountability, professionalism, cultural awareness, and commitment to a healthy work environment.
  • Practices safe work habits, effective time management, and work–life balance; identifies and communicates safety concerns to leadership.
  • Applies the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care framework to deliver holistic, patient-centered care and create a healing environment.
  • Formulates and implements individualized plans of care in partnership with patients; demonstrates critical thinking across clinical, psychosocial, safety, and spiritual domains.
  • Communicates patient status clearly and effectively to care team members; maintains accurate, thorough documentation to support continuity of care.
  • Provides patient and family education using adult learning principles to support care, transitions, and self-management.
  • Supports the development of students and new staff; may serve as a preceptor and fosters a culture of feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Actively participates in unit- or department-based quality improvement initiatives; utilizes evidence-based practice and research to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Engages in shared governance, professional development, and change initiatives to improve the practice environment and patient outcomes.
  • Serves as an active, collaborative member of the care team; adapts to change and supports team needs.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • No experience required. BSN preferred.
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
    • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
    • Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
